INTRODUCTION

The angel Gabriel’s 70 week prophecy given to Daniel – so much confusion, so much deception.  But I’m going to tell you the meaning of it right now, like you’ve never heard before.  I could earn a doctorate in theology for what I’m about to tell you.  That’s how incredible it is!  But I’m not interested in doctorates.  I’m interested in YOU knowing the truth of God’s Word.  That’s it.  And God has shown me the truth of Daniel’s 70 weeks (including the 70th week) which contains the words “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week”.  It’s the truth behind these words that would earn me a doctorate.  For I’ve found no evidence what God showed me has ever been known.  It’s that amazing!

Oh, and by the way, guess where the knowledge is already contained?  It’s in my 2008 book “Undeniable Biblical Proof Jesus Christ Will Return to Planet Earth Exactly 2,000 Years After the Year of His Death”.  No joke!  I didn’t even know it.  I never mentioned Daniel’s 70 week prophecy in my book, and yet God just recently showed me how He led me to write its fulfillment.  It still blows my mind!  That book is anointed beyond me!  And I’m going to show you some of the pages (in the book) containing the truth behind the angel Gabriel’s prophecy to Daniel in this article.

Alright, but first I ask one thing … check your baggage at the door!  Forget what you think you know about Daniel’s 70 weeks.  That stuff is just going to hinder you from being able to hear the simple truth of the prophecy.  Because I’m going to take us through it, verse by verse, so you can understand.  So shake that junk off, right now.  Clear your head, so you can hear.

CONTEXT

First some context – time, place, and players involved.  This is important when trying to understand God’s Word.  So Daniel was born in Jerusalem around 620 BC.  And when he was a teenager (around 605 BC) he was taken into Babylonian captivity.  This happened in an initial wave of Nebuchadnezzar’s conquest over the Kingdom of Judah – Nebuchadnezzar, being king of Babylon.

Then roughly 20 years later (around 587 BC) Nebuchadnezzar’s army finished the job.  They destroyed the city of Jerusalem and its Temple, scattering the Jews to the four winds.  This devastated Daniel.  Tore him up inside!  But Daniel was well educated, and he knew God had had a prophet named Jeremiah (back in Jerusalem, before its destruction) who had foretold the Jews captivity in Babylon would only last 70 years.  So this gave Daniel hope for the Jews – to rebuild Jerusalem, and the Temple.

So near the end of his life (around 540 BC) Daniel was praying about these things.  This is what chapter 9 of Daniel is about.  It’s Daniel crying out in anguish to God, begging forgiveness for the Jew’s sins that led them into captivity, and praying for the restoration of Jerusalem.

So that’s what’s going on.  And right then, as Daniel is praying … that’s when the angel Gabriel arrives to give Daniel this 70 weeks prophecy.  The prophecy is the last 4 verses of Daniel chapter 9 (verse 24, 25, 26, & 27).  And it concerns the things Daniel was praying about – forgiveness of sins, and the future of Jerusalem.  This is key, guys!  The prophecy is about forgiveness of sins and the city of Jerusalem.

🔑 KEY # 1
GABRIEL’S PROPHECY IS ABOUT FORGIVENESS OF SINS & JERUSALEM

Gabriel has good news and bad news about the Jew’s future in Jerusalem.  They’ll get to rebuild the city, but sadly, it’ll be destroyed again!  And Gabriel has great news about forgiveness of sins.  Why?  Because the 70 weeks prophecy was about the future Messiah’s redemption work and when he’d do it!  The Messiah is the only one through whom Daniel & the Jews could receive forgiveness for their sins, which is what Daniel was praying about.  So this is fascinating!  Let’s dig into this prophecy and get the FULL TRUTH behind Gabriel’s words.

DANIEL’S 70 WEEKS

So here’s the entire prophecy, all 4 verses …

24)  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

25)  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26)  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27)  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

(Daniel 9:24-27)

The first thing I want to point out is you’ll see 4 times the word “weeks” is used and 2 times the word “week” is used.  All 6 times it’s the same Hebrew word šābûa´ meaning: week, a time period of seven.  So this can be a week of days (a normal week, 7 days), or it can be a week of years (a 7 year period).

And what you’re going to find out is both meanings are used in Gabriel’s prophecy.  The first four šābûa´s are weeks of years, each “week” is a 7 year period.  But the last two šābûa´s (in verse 27) are a normal week, just a normal week of 7 days.

So I’m giving you a huge clue already!  The correct understanding of Daniel 9:27, where it says “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week,” means there was a covenant already in existence (even as Gabriel was speaking to Daniel!) that someone was going to come along and confirm “with many” (meaning many people would witness the confirmation), and it would take the person exactly 7 days (one week) to confirm it.  And friend, I wrote about these 7 anointed days in my 2008 book!

DANIEL 9:24

Alright, so let’s do this one verse at a time, and let’s REALLY understand what Gabriel was prophesying.  In the first verse (verse 24) Gabriel begins by telling Daniel …

24)  Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

(Daniel 9:24)

So here we see Gabriel has prophesied a 70 weeks chunk of time for six things to be accomplished.  That means somewhere within 70 weeks these six things will occur.  And to whom and where will they happen?  They’ve been determined upon Daniel’s people (thy people), which is the Jews, and in their Holy City (Jerusalem).  So Gabriel has already told Daniel somewhere within a 70 weeks period of time six things will happen among the Jewish people in Jerusalem.  Do you see that?  Seventy weeks are determined upon “thy people” (the Jews) and upon thy Holy City (Jerusalem) to do 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6.

Now listen, these six things are Messianic things!  It’s the Messiah who will …

  1. finish the transgression
  2. make an end of sins
  3. make reconciliation for iniquity
  4. bring in everlasting righteousness
  5. seal up the vision and prophecy
  6. be anointed the most Holy

Remember Daniel was praying for forgiveness for the Jew’s sins?  Well this is the guy who could offer that forgiveness – the Messiah!  (Who would be Jesus Christ, but Daniel doesn’t know that.)  But here’s the key, these six Messianic things are six things Christ would accomplish during his FIRST coming!

🔑 KEY # 2
GABRIEL’S PROPHECY IS ABOUT SIX THINGS MESSIAH WOULD ACCOMPLISH DURING HIS FIRST COMING

Remember Jesus saying on the cross right before he died “It is Finished”?  Well this was Jesus pointing directly to Daniel 9:24 and the first objective!  He was finishing the transgression!  What transgression?  The transgression Adam & Eve began in the Garden of Eden.  And since “finish” means “end” and “transgression” means “sin”.  He was making an end of sins also, the second objective!  Listen, when Adam & Eve sinned all mankind was under the death penalty for sin.  But when Christ died (he who knew no sin) he finished the transgression, made an end of sins, made reconciliation for iniquity, and brought in everlasting righteousness (eternal life).  Christ’s death is what did these things.

1. Finish the Transgression

After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

(John 19:28-30)

2. Make an End of Sins

And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.

(Hebrews 10:11-12)

3. Make Reconciliation for Iniquity

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

(Romans 5:10)

4. Bring in Everlasting Righteousness

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

(II Corinthians 5:21)

5. Seal Up the Vision and Prophecy

Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

(Luke 24:25-27)

6. Anoint the Most Holy

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

(Acts 10:38)

All the famous Bible commentators knew these six objectives were accomplished by Christ during his First Coming – Albert Barnes, John Calvin, Adam Clarke, John Gill, John Wesley, Matthew Henry, Matthew Poole.  They’re not about his Second Coming, or any other time period.  Think about it, people are going to still sin at the end of Christ’s 1,000 year millennial reign (when Satan is released for a short time and deceives them), so when do you think Christ will “make an end of sins”?  After the millennial reign?  The angel Gabriel said these 6 things would happen within a 70 week period.  Do you think that stretches to after the millennial reign?  Nonsense!

No friend, it was Christ’s death on the cross that made an end of sins!  Why do you think Christ said “It is finished” on the cross?  What was finished?  Honestly, this was Christ’s mic-drop moment on Daniel 9:24.  He was saying, “Look there in the Scriptures!  I’m finishing the transgression!  I’m completing the six objectives the angel Gabriel wrote about me right now!  God has anointed me the Most Holy, the one fulfilling the Messianic prophecies written about me, and I’ll seal up the vision and the prophecies (after my resurrection) by explaining how I fulfilled them.”

So to recap, Daniel 9:24 was saying somewhere within a 70 weeks block of time the Messiah will come along and complete his six redemption objectives, and he’ll do it among the Jews in their Holy City of Jerusalem.  So from this first part alone Daniel realizes the city of Jerusalem is going to be rebuilt.  He must be pumped!

DANIEL 9:25

So looking now at Daniel 9:25, we’ll see Gabriel reveals when the 70 weeks block of time will begin, and he’ll narrow down when (during the 70 weeks) the Messiah will come along to complete his six tasks.  He’ll also give a little information about the rebuilding of Jerusalem.  So let’s read …

25)  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

(Daniel 9:25)

Ok, this is simple, so it’s going to be 7 weeks + 62 weeks (69 weeks total) until Messiah comes along to do the 6 things mentioned about him in the previous verse.  And the 70 weeks will begin when a commandment is given (by someone) that the Jews can rebuild Jerusalem.  And it’ll be hard times rebuilding the street & the wall.

I’m guessing Daniel is overjoyed now!  Jerusalem’s going to be rebuilt!  And I’m sure Daniel now realizes these “weeks” Gabriel is talking about are not normal 7 day weeks, because no way is Jerusalem going to be rebuilt in 70 normal weeks, which is a little over a year.  Impossible!  So Daniel now knows these are weeks of years – each week is a 7 year period.  So the angel Gabriel’s 70 weeks prophecy is speaking of 70 (7 year) periods, or 490 years max (70 x 7 = 490 years).

DANIEL 9:26

Looking now at Daniel 9:26, we find Gabriel uses a single word that reveals more precisely when the Messiah will come along and accomplish the six things he announced about him in verse 24.  Then Gabriel gives Daniel terrible news about what’s coming in the future to the Holy City of Jerusalem!  Here it is …

26)  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

(Daniel 9:26)

So here we learn it will be AFTER the 62 weeks period (which is after the 7 weeks period) that Messiah will arrive and do his work.  So when’s that?  It’s AFTER 69 weeks!  The 70th week!  It can’t be the 71st week, or the 72nd, because that would be passed the 70 weeks Gabriel allotted in verse 24.

🔑 KEY # 3
DANIEL’S 70TH WEEK FORETOLD A 7 YEAR WINDOW IN WHICH MESSIAH WOULD COMPLETE HIS REDEMPTION WORK

So here’s another key guys, listen up … Gabriel’s 70 weeks timeline was for one purpose: It was to prophesy a 7 year window of time (the 70th week) – almost 500 years in the future! – for when the Messiah would be on Earth doing the 6 things he announced about him in verse 24.  So starting the count from the commandment to rebuild Jerusalem, Jesus would be on Earth sometime between 483 to 490 years later fulfilling his 6 objectives.  That’s amazing!  That’s what Daniel’s 70th week is about.  It’s about Messiah’s redemption work – nothing more, nothing less.

Listen, Gabriel wasn’t going to pinpoint the exact year the Messiah would fulfill his 6 tasks.  Nope!  He only foretold a 7 year window, within which, somewhere the Messiah would do his work.  It’s critical you understand this.  Why?  Because that’s ALL the 70th seven year period (or Daniel’s 70th week) is about.  It was simply to clue the Jews in on a 7 year window in which they could look for Messiah to fulfill his redemption work.  And that 7 year window would be 483 to 490 years after some future commandment that allowed the Jews to rebuild Jerusalem.

So here’s how this shook out, around 458 BC King Artaxerxes gave the decree to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, and thus began the 70 weeks.  The first 7 weeks (49 years) were to finish the rebuilding of Jerusalem, and then the long 62 weeks period began (434 years).  Together, this comes to AD 25.  So Daniel’s 70th week (7 year period) would run from AD 25 to AD 32.  Somewhere within those 7 years Messiah would accomplish the 6 things Gabriel spoke about him in Daniel 9:24.  And ever since writing my book in AD 2008 I’ve taught Jesus Christ died on the cross Passover AD 28.  So that’s right there in the 7 year window the angel Gabriel allotted for Messiah’s redemption work, in perfect fulfillment of his words.

The Purpose of Daniel's 70th Week - Destruction of Jerusalem

By the way, just some fun facts … it’s because of Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy that the Wiseman journeyed from Babylon looking for Messiah when they did.  They knew the time was approaching!  It’s also why Andrew found his brother Simon (Peter), and said, “Come, we’ve found the Messiah” (John 1:41).  Why was he so confident?  Because of Gabriel’s 70 weeks about Messiah!  They knew the Scriptures.  They knew the time was at hand.  So he had to be somewhere, and they were looking.

26)  And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

(Daniel 9:26)

Alright, so looking back at verse 26, the Messiah being “cut off” was prophesying his crucifixion.  To “cut off” means to kill.  And the “but not for himself” means he wouldn’t be crucified for himself.  He was crucified for us!  He’d be “cut off” for us!  So after 69 weeks Messiah would die for us, meaning sometime during the 70th week (70th seven year period) which turned out to be AD 25 to AD 32.  And that’s exactly what happened – Feast of Passover AD 28.

And the second half of this verse was tragic news: Jerusalem and its Temple would be destroyed by the “people of a prince.”  Some believe this prince is Messiah – the same prince mentioned in verse 25 – and so the “people of the prince” would be the Jews.  And it’s true Jerusalem was destroyed because the Jews rejected Jesus as the Messiah.  But others believe this prince was Titus (son of the Roman Emperor Vespasian), and thus the “people of the prince” would be the Romans.  And it’s also true the Roman Army destroyed Jerusalem in AD 70 led by Prince Titus.  So take your pick!  But the war was exactly as Gabriel described, the Romans systematically destroyed section after section of the Jewish city “like a flood” until Jerusalem and the Temple were desolated.

🔑 KEY # 4
THE DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM WAS NOT TO OCCUR DURING THE 70 WEEKS

Here now is your next key in understanding Gabriel’s prophecy to Daniel; the destruction (desolation) of Jerusalem was never part of the 70 weeks!  Gabriel made it clear in the first verse (verse 24) what the 70 weeks were about.  They were for accomplishing the 6 things Messiah would do!  The destruction of Jerusalem was not one of those 6 things.  This is key!  So many get confused here.  Only the Messiah’s redemption work would happen during the 70th week (AD 25 to AD 32).  The destruction of Jerusalem was a separate thing, meant to happen outside of the 70 weeks timeframe.  And so it happened about 40 years after Christ’s death in AD 70 through Prince Titus and his Roman army.

And again, don’t forget the whole reason the angel Gabriel showed up to give Daniel this prophecy about Messiah’s redemption work and the future of Jerusalem is because that was the two things Daniel was praying about in Daniel chapter 9.  Daniel was asking for the Jew’s forgiveness and Jerusalem’s restoration.  So Gabriel arrived with news of both – God’s forgiveness through Messiah and the future rebuilding and destruction of Jerusalem.  That’s the entire subject matter of Gabriel’s prophecy in Daniel 9:24-27.

DANIEL 9:27

So let’s turn our attention now to the final verse (verse 27), where most of the confusion and deception arises in the angel Gabriel’s words to Daniel.  And yet, this is marvelous!  For here the angel Gabriel gives detailed clues into HOW the Messiah will PROVE he’s the Messiah, the one sent to accomplish the 6 things Gabriel spoke about him in Daniel 9:24.  So here’s the wonderful truth of Daniel 9:27 …

27)  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

(Daniel 9:27)

So as I told you earlier, the HE in “HE shall confirm THE covenant” is Messiah, which we know is Jesus Christ.  And the covenant “He shall confirm” was the “seed covenant” God originated with the Patriarchs back in the Old Testament.  God first made this covenant with Abraham, then Abraham’s son Isaac, then Isaac’s son Jacob.  This “seed covenant” was about the eternal life Messiah would give to all those who obey him.

I speak of this covenant, extensively, in my 2008 book — in the Abraham chapter, the Isaac chapter, and the Jacob chapter.  And I keep calling it “God’s covenantal seed promise” to the patriarchs.  God called it a Covenant; Paul called it a Promise.  A covenant is a promise!  So this is where my doctoral thesis on Daniel 9:27 begins in my book – in Chapter 5 Abraham with these words …

When Abraham arrived in Canaan — present day land of Israel — God told him: “Unto thy SEED will I give this land” (Genesis 12:7). This, too, is about Jesus! Paul understood it: “Now to Abraham and his SEED were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, WHICH IS CHRIST” (Galatians 3:16). See, the “seed promise” God made to Abraham was NOT about the Jews or the Earthly nation of Israel: It was prophecy about the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ!!! (pg 118)

So you see here, Paul calls it “the promises made.”  And it’s about Christ!  Well here now is God calling it “my covenant” (this is in the Isaac chapter of my book).  Still speaking to Abraham, God said …

“I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect … I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. (pg 132)

Notice, it’s an everlasting covenant!  That’s because it’s about the eternal life Christ would achieve for all those who love him.  And so I wrote this in my book about God’s covenantal “seed promise” …

But make no mistake about it; Jesus was/is the fulfillment of God’s covenantal “seed promise” to the Patriarchs. (pg 120)

Paul knew this as well, and it’s why he wrote this: “For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised (meaning the Jews) on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs” (Romans 15:8).  Wow, do you see it!  This is Daniel 9:27 – Jesus confirmed the covenant (promises) God had made to the Patriarchs!

CONFIRM THE COVENANT

But HOW did Jesus confirm the covenant?  The word “confirm” comes from the Hebrew word gābar meaning: to strengthen, to triumph.  Friend, Jesus “confirmed the covenant” by fulfilling all of the Messianic prophecies written about him!  The prophecies which included his death, burial, and resurrection.  But the angel Gabriel had revealed a secret: These prophecies would be fulfilled in one week of time (7 days)!  Let me say it another way, the week of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, he fulfilled TIMING prophecies that God had made about him that covered ONE WEEK of time (7 days).  That’s what the angel Gabriel meant when he told Daniel “He shall confirm the covenant, with many, for one week”.  MANY people would witness Jesus fulfilling these TIMING prophecies that spanned this 7 day period.

So here’s a picture showing the 7 days.  But the complete explanation of these 7 days is contained in Chapter 9 Moses of my 2008 book.  That’s where God inspired me to write at length about the 7 prophetic days that proved Christ was the Messiah.  And I had no clue I was writing the fulfillment of Daniel 9:27 at the time!

The Passion Week of Christ

You’ll see there are two places God hid TIMING prophecies that span the 7 day week of Christ’s crucifixion – Israel’s Passover Lamb (4 days) and the story of Jonah (3 days).  The 10th & 14th of Nissan were God’s choosing and killing days for the Passover Lamb, respectively, and as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the whale’s belly so too Christ would be buried in the heart of the earth, rising on the 17th of Nissan.  And there’s your ONE WEEK (7 days) of TIMING prophecies fulfilled by Christ that CONFIRMED he was the Messiah.

No other timing prophecies were given for the Messiah’s ministry, except for the prophecies God had made foretelling the YEAR of Christ’s death, which would be Earth’s 4,000th year.  There are 10 of those in God’s Word.  But zooming in on the 4,000th year, only the Passover Lamb requirements and the story of Jonah contained timing prophecies Christ had to fulfill to confirm he was the Messiah, and they covered exactly one week of time — the 10th, 14th, and 17th of Nissan.  That is how Christ “confirmed the Messianic covenant, with many, for one week (7 days).”

God gave Israel 8 requirements concerning their Passover Lamb, and Jesus fulfilled all eight.  But only 2 of them were timing prophecies — choose your lamb on the 10th of Nissan and kill it on the 14th.  Jesus was chosen on the 10th of Nissan (riding into Jerusalem on a donkey) as MANY people laid palm branches down in front of him, shouting, “Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel.” (John 12:13).  See the people were acknowledging Jesus as their king, the Messiah!  They were choosing him as the Passover Lamb, even though they didn’t know what they were doing!  And in my 2008 book I prove in Chapter 9 Moses that this happened on a Sabbath Day, the 10th of Nissan.

Then 4 days later on the 14th of Nissan Jesus was killed.  This was a Wednesday, the MIDDLE day of the week!  This fulfilled not only the killing of the Passover Lamb requirement on the 14th of Nissan, but it also fulfilled the next part of Gabriel’s words in Daniel 9:27, where he said, “And in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease.”

It was literally “in the midst of the week” (the middle day, day 4 of a week) when Christ was sacrificed!  Christ’s crucifixion caused the Temple work of animal sacrifice to be obsolete (no longer needed).  That activity ceased to have any importance in God’s eyes after Christ’s death, because the true Passover Lamb (the Messiah) had now been sacrificed.

And lastly the Jonah prophecy, that was the ONLY sign Christ said he would give the Jews, proving he was the Messiah.  Three days and three nights he would be buried, and then he’d rise again, which was the 17th of Nissan.

Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah: For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

(Matthew 12:38-40)

And now you know how Christ “confirmed the covenant (God’s covenantal seed promise to the Patriarchs), with many, in one week of time (7 days)”.  Many people witnessed Christ ride into Jerusalem on a donkey, many people saw him crucified, and many saw him after his resurrection.  When this week was complete (according to the prophecies) the covenant was confirmed (ratified).  It was strengthened!  The Messiah had come and done his work.  He had triumphed!

The prophecies were fulfilled and the covenantal seed promise was now confirmed.  The seed was Jesus!  And the covenant’s promise of eternal life was now possible through him.  Truly, Christ “confirmed the covenant, with many, in one week of time”  And it all happened during the 70th week (7 year period) the angel Gabriel had foretold – AD 28!  What an amazing prophecy by Gabriel!  (And if you want the rest of the story behind what God was speaking through the 7 day week of Christ’s crucifixion get my 2008 book and read the Moses chapter.  It’s mind-blowing!)

DESTRUCTION OF JERUSALEM (AD 70)

And so looking back now at the last part of Daniel 9:27, this is again about the destruction of Jerusalem that would come in AD 70 …

The “overspreading of abominations” was the Jew’s decision to continue “animal sacrifice” in the Temple after Christ’s death.  This was a continual rejection of Jesus as the Messiah!  Animal sacrifice was worthless after Christ’s death.  It was an abomination in God’s eyes.  So God worked through the Romans to destroy Jerusalem and the Temple in AD 70, stopping this continuous abomination.  Jerusalem & the Temple were destroyed, and the Jews were left desolate again!

This is what Jesus was referring to when he cried …

27)  Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate.

(Matthew 23:37-38)

See it?  Your house is left to you desolate!  It’s so clear.  This was Jesus again pointing to the angel Gabriel’s prophetic words — specifically, the second half of Daniel 9:26, and the second half of Daniel 9:27.  If you read them together, you’ll see it …

26)  And the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27)  And for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

(Daniel 9:26-27)

It’s these same words of Gabriel’s Jesus was referring to when he said this (literally on the 10th of Nissan), as he was riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, beginning his confirmation of the covenant.

As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it, and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace (Guys, it was the 10th of Nissan! The choosing day of the Passover Lamb! Christ’s redemption work (as the Passover Lamb) is what will bring the world peace one day!) — but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies (the Romans) will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the TIME of God’s coming to you.”

(Luke 19:41-44)

Oh my!  They didn’t recognize what?  The time!  They didn’t understand the timing prophecies!  So they killed Messiah.  And for this, God allowed the Romans to destroy them in AD 70.  They built an embankment around Jerusalem and trapped the Jews inside.  Then they slowly and systematically demolished Jerusalem, progressing from one walled section of the city to the next, like a flood.  It was horrific!  Historian’s estimate over one million Jews died in the war.  It took almost five months, but in the end the Roman army led by Prince Titus leveled the city, including the Temple, just as the angel Gabriel and Jesus had prophesied.

And it all happened because the Jews did not recognize the TIME of their visitation.  They did not recognize Jesus as Messiah, even though the angel Gabriel had given them the time of his redemption work through this 70 weeks prophecy.  Sad!  And don’t forget, the destruction of Jerusalem was not one of the objectives of Gabriel’s 70 weeks.  Only Messiah would complete his 6 tasks during the 70th week.  The destruction of Jerusalem is separate matter, which happened roughly 40 years after the 70 weeks period.

CONCLUSION

So that’s it, now you know what the angel Gabriel’s prophecy to Daniel was all about in Daniel 9:24-27.  It concerned two issues – Messiah’s First Coming & Jerusalem’s rebuilding and destruction in AD 70.  The entire prophecy was fulfilled over 1900 years ago, from 458 BC to AD 70.

The 70th week was simply Gabriel’s way of prophesying a 7 year window inside of which the Messiah’s ministry would happen.  That’s it, it’s no more than that.  You don’t have to search for 7 years worth of events to fulfill it.  When Messiah came and completed his 6 tasks within the 70th week the 70th week was fulfilled.

And Daniel 9:27 was Gabriel’s way of zooming in on a specific 7 days (one week) in which Messiah would prove he was the Messiah by fulfilling timing prophecies God had made about him spanning those 7 days.  Christ was chosen on the 10th of Nissan and died 4 days later on the 14th of Nissan (in the midst of the week) fulfilling the Passover Lamb requirements.  Then Christ resurrected 3 days and 3 nights later on the 17th of Nissan fulfilling the sign of Jonah.  In so doing, Christ confirmed the covenant, the seed promise, God had made with the patriarch’s.  That’s the whole shebang!

If we look at the entire prophecy, and I color code it – purple for Messiah, yellow for Jerusalem – you can really see it.  If you read only the purple text, it’s all about Messiah first coming.  If you read only the yellow text, it’s all about what would happen to the city of Jerusalem.

Daniel 9:24-27

So here’s the deal … NOTHING in Gabriel’s prophecy is about the end times or the Antichrist.  It’s blasphemous to attribute prophetic words of the Messiah’s redemption work to his enemy the Antichrist, and yet this is what’s happening today.  Satan has deceived our final generation into believing Daniel 9:27 is about Antichrist making a final 7 year peace treaty.  But there’s no “peace treaty” in Daniel 9:27 – only the covenant Jesus confirmed!

Nowhere in God’s Word does Antichrist make, break, or confirm any covenant, let alone some peace treaty.  That’s garbage doctrine.  We’re in the final 7 years till Christ’s return right now, but many can’t see it, because they’re looking for a peace treaty to be signed.  They’ve been duped!  They’re looking for something that’s NEVER going to happen!  A 7 year peace treaty is just NOT in God’s Word.

2028 END is the truth.  It’s always been.  Don’t let Satan keep you in the dark to the TIME!  Share this page with your friends and family.  Let the church know the truth of Daniel’s 70 weeks.  Help the world to know Jesus is returning soon – Feast of Trumpets 2028.
